Clinica Tepeyac is a community-based nonprofit health care organization providing culturally competent medical care and preventive health education to predominately Latino families in the Metro Denver area.    Clinica Tepeyac is a vibrant clinic with both volunteer and paid staff. The Clinic provides quality health services to over 15,000 patients annually.

General Description of Duties:
Functions as a member of the medical team performing basic medical assisting duties
Adheres to the spirit of La Clínica Tepeyac mission statement while performing assigned duties.

Supervision Received:
Under the supervision of the Medical Assistant Supervisor and/or all Medical providers.

Supervision Exercised:
None

Specific Duties:
Assists with direct patient care procedures and related task: checks in patients, obtains and records patient histories, vital signs including blood pressure, height, weight, head circumference, pulse, pain scale and respirations. Maintains patient flow through the clinic while adhering to confidentiality in all phases of work. Performs routine procedures such as venipuncture, EKG’s, vision testing, hearing testing, and ear irrigation. Maintains medical records, logs and charts. Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of clinic activities. Acts as a translator as needed for providers. Performs duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to learn addition medical and procedural skills. Ability to relate to co-workers, patients and sensitivity to each individual needs. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority community a must.

Education:
High school diploma or GED. Graduate from a medical assistant program.

Experience:
One year of clinical work as medical assistant preferred, or three year’s experience in a medical field.

Licensure:
None needed. Certification or registration required.

Blood bore Pathogen Risk Level:
High risk for blood borne pathogens

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; normal visual acuity and hearing.  Requires moderate physical activity to include standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; handling of average-weight objects of up to 25 lbs. Requires working under stress in urgent situations and occasionally irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

FLSA Code:
Non-exempt position.
